Local Area & Things To Do

Mocktree Barns are located on the Herefordshire / Shropshire border in the heart of historic Mortimer Country yet only seven miles from the splendid medieval market town of Ludlow.

Whatever the season, there is plenty to do. There are great opportunities for walkers and nature-lovers, for anglers and bird watchers, for golfers and geologists.

Public rights-of-way are there for you to walk through the woods and fields, explore the quiet valleys and lanes and climb to the top of the hills to marvel at the view. Nearby are Wenlock Edge, the Long Mynd, Clee Hill, the Teme Valley, Mortimer Forest and Offa's Dyke Path.

Border castles are in abundance - notably Stokesay, Clun, Powis and Ludlow - and there are several National Trust properties within a short drive. The village of Leintwardine, once a Roman settlement, is only two miles away.

There is much to discover in the nearby towns - Church Stretton, Bishop's Castle, Much Wenlock, Tenbury Wells, Leominster, Knighton and, above all, Ludlow.

Antiques and crafts, teashops and bookshops abound and there are many attractive villages in the area, including those linked by the Black and White Trail, a drive though the Herefordshire cider country.

Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, the Malvern Hills and the 'Three Choirs' cities of Hereford and Worcester are all within easy reach.

Public transport - a regular bus service between Ludlow and Knighton passes our gate. We can meet main line trains in Ludlow. (Manchester-Crewe-Newport-Cardiff route). We offer 10% off our tariff for guests arriving by public transport - see Tariff and Booking page for details.

No shortage of things to do or places to go - but you could just come and relax - soak up the tranquillity and enjoy a piece of England's rural heritage.
